Birthday and Christmas present suggestions
With 3rd party website links to birthday and Christmas present ideas that our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers may want to add to their lists and some information that parents, family and friends may also find useful. Out and about:
- Day Rucksack – suggest 20-30 litres for hikes;
- Expedition Rucksack – suggest 60-70 litres, internal frame, lightweight-ish;
- Hiking boots;
- Warm comfortable walking socks;
- Gaiters;
- Waterproof trousers;
- Waterproof coat;
- Hat – beanie style &/or sunhat;
- Gloves.
Staying over:
- Sleeping Bag – see Handy Guides section for a link to selection advice – for most Scout Camps a lightweight with a compression/stuff sack is suffice;
- Roll Mat – inflatable is ok for camps but need lightweight for hiking;
- Pillow – travel type, could be inflatable Towel;
- Bivy Sack;
- Scout Blanket or a Poncho – for campfires (and badges);
- Compression bags – for kit to be squashed up;
- Plastic Plate, bowl mug and cutlery.
Whatever the occasion:
- Personal First Aid Kit;
- Drinks bottle;
- CamelBak;
- Compass – Silva type;
- Map case;
- Whistle – emergency, orange, no pea;
- Penknife* – Victorinox Huntsman, Camper or Scout;
- Ledlenser LED torch ;
- Head torch;
- Fire Starter;
- Games and toys with a Scouting theme.
*Please note: penknives are only permitted on certain events/evenings for those who have been shown how to use/carry them correctly and have proved to the leaders they are responsible.
