About Us: Our Scout Group is an active and vibrant community that empowers young people to
develop essential life skills, explore the outdoors, and build lasting friendships.

Role Overview: As Group Secretary, you’ll be the central point of information and
communication and play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our Scout Group.

Our Group Secretary assists the Group Chair and Group Lead Volunteer (GLV) in the effective
running of the Group by providing administration support. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of meetings, events, and important
communications.
2. Communication: Keep our leaders, parents, and volunteers informed about upcoming
activities, policies, and updates.
3. Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks related to group management.

Requirements: We’re looking for someone who embodies the Scout spirit and possesses the
following qualities:

  • Good writing and communication abilities
  • Good organisational skills
  • Familiarity with Trustee Governance and/or Charity Commission guidance would be a
    bonus but not essential.

No previous experience of Scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and
personal experience as well as empathy with our mission and values.

The role is expected to require approximately four hours per month in volunteering time though this could
vary depending on frequency of meetings and events. Typically, there are 8-10 meetings per year and
occasional other events. Additionally, all adult volunteers are required to undertake a DBS check and to
complete some mandatory training modules (which are available online).
